The Beekeeper's Story
Beekeeping began in the Marshall family with Spencer Marshall's grandmother, who kept hives on their Yamhill Farm. Born on a farm, Spencer was always captivated by those beehives. In 1990 he met his wife Helene, an SF native, and two years later they started Marshall's Farm Honey β Spencer as the beekeeper and Helene as the businesswoman who built the brand door-to-door in the Bay Area restaurant community, earning a place at renowned restaurants such as The French Laundry and Chez Panisse. Helene passed away in 2016, and daughter-in-law Alison Trotta-Marshall stepped in to run the company, becoming the majority owner with a focus on bee health. Today the tradition continues with Spencer's son Gary and granddaughter Ruby Rain. What makes their honey distinctive is that each microclimate harvest across five Bay Area counties is kept separate β never blended β capturing the unique flavors, textures, and colors of each locale, from Marin mountain wildflowers to San Francisco rooftop hives.
