Blue Hills Honey is a multi-award-winning, family-run honey producer based in Mawbanna on the northwest coast of Tasmania, Australia, producing liquid gold since 1955. Owned and operated by Robbie and Nicola Charles, the farm specialises in globally renowned Leatherwood honey sourced exclusively from the pristine Tarkine wilderness — Australia's largest temperate rainforest. Their honey is cold-extracted with no additives and is celebrated for containing some of the highest antioxidant levels of any honey in the world.

The Beekeeper's Story

Blue Hills Honey has been a family operation in the tiny hamlet of Mawbanna, Tasmania for over 65 years, with origins dating back to 1955. Robbie and Nicola Charles operate more than 2,000 beehives spread across 18 sites throughout the Tarkine region, with Tasmania being the only place in the world where leatherwood honey is produced — and Blue Hills being the only beekeepers licensed to operate in the heart of the Tarkine's pristine temperate rainforests. Their primary product, Leatherwood honey, accounts for around 70% of production and is often described as 'the taste of the rainforest.' Beyond their iconic Leatherwood variety, Blue Hills also produces meadow (clover), blackberry, manuka (tea tree), wildflower, and pepperberry honeys. The farm has grown into a full visitor experience — the 'Blue Hills Honey Experience' — featuring the Colony Café, a honey gift shop, factory viewing area, and interactive exhibits. They hold certifications including BQUAL Certificate #1 (the first beekeeper in Australia to achieve this), HACCP, HALAL, Kosher, and TAHG, and supply both domestic and premium international export markets.
