The Beekeeper's Story

Sonoma County Bee Company was launched in May 2019 by founder Candice Koseba, the culmination of a six-year journey to build a nature-centered career. Koseba began as a chef in Chicago and Carmel before becoming fascinated with edible plants and bees, eventually studying with local bee expert Serge Lebesque at Santa Rosa Junior College and joining the Sonoma County Beekeepers Association. As her knowledge and hive count grew, she formalized the operation into the Sonoma County Bee Company, which today operates as a collective with fellow beekeepers tending hives across Sonoma County. The company oversees more than 40 hives housing approximately 900,000 bees, using both Langstroth and hybrid log hive styles. Their honey is harvested only a couple of times per year, by hand, using a comb-crush method that preserves pollen and beneficial minerals without heat processing. Beyond honey, they offer hive management services, honey tastings, workshops, and a growing line of plant-based apothecary products. Their ethos centers on the bees first — harvesting only surplus honey and introducing nothing unnatural into the beekeeping cycle.
