The Beekeeper's Story

Sabatino's journey began in 1911 when Sabatino Balestra and his wife Giuseppina opened a small storefront in Montecastrilli, a quiet village in the heart of Umbria, Italy, distributing local goods including truffles, olives, and olive oil. Over generations, the family's passion for Umbria's famed 'black gold' grew into a global enterprise. In the 1960s, Piero Balestra invested in truffle farming, and by the 1990s the company had expanded internationally. Today, under third-generation CEO Federico Balestra, Sabatino is recognized as the world's largest truffle manufacturer, with production facilities in both Montecastrilli, Italy and West Haven, Connecticut, spanning over 230,000 square feet with 14 production lines and more than 150 employees. The company's truffle honey — raw acacia honey infused with Umbrian black truffles — is one of its celebrated gourmet condiment products.
