The Beekeeper's Story
Red Bee Honey was born in 2000 when Marina Marchese, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts with a 15-year international design career, was invited to visit a neighbor's apiary in Weston, CT. Her first taste of fresh honey changed the course of her life β she quit her job, built a beehive, and acquired Italian honeybees to become a full-time beekeeper. A pivotal trip to Tuscany led her to a honey festival in Montalcino, where she discovered Italy's honey sommelier program. Compelled by the philosophy of terroir β the idea that geography, climate, and soil shape the flavor of honey just as they do wine β she returned to study sensory analysis and launched the Red Bee brand. Today, Red Bee operates out of a charming farm and Honey House Barn at 77 Lyons Plain Road in Weston, offering a curated collection of over twenty single-origin honeys, beeswax products, and skin care items. Marina is the founder of the American Honey Tasting Society, an accredited instructor for the Italian Register of Experts in the Sensory Analysis of Honey, and the author of multiple books including The World Atlas of Honey, The Honey Connoisseur, Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper, and Honey for Dummies. The farm hosts honey tastings, beekeeping workshops, and annual open-house events, and Red Bee honey is sold online and through specialty retailers nationally.
