The Beekeeper's Story

Founded in 1898 by Benjamin T. Lanier along the Apalachicola River swamps of Gulf County, Florida, L.L. Lanier & Son's Tupelo Honey has been a family legacy for five generations. Ben's great-grandfather started the business with borrowed money and a dream of delivering Tupelo Honey to the community, and the operation has been passed down from son to son ever since. Ben Lanier now runs the business with his wife Glynnis and son Heath, who is set to become the sixth generation to carry on the tradition. The farm operates on 600 acres of land along the Apalachicola River swamps and is famous far beyond its small-town roots. Ben and Glynnis Lanier served as consultants for the 1997 Oscar-nominated film 'Ulee's Gold' starring Peter Fonda, training Fonda for his role as a swamp beekeeper and lending the filmmakers the run of their land. Their honey is produced entirely by hand, from hive to table — raw, unheated, unfiltered, and never blended with other honeys — shipping to customers across the continental United States and drawing visitors from around the world.
