Urban beekeeping operation bringing local honey to the Bay Area.

The Beekeeper's Story

Hilary Kearney founded Girl Next Door Honey in 2012 in her hometown of San Diego after graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Fine Art. Breaking from traditional beekeeping business models, she built a business that does not depend on honey sales or pollination services, instead centering on natural beekeeping classes, apiary management, classroom presentations, beehive tours, and live bee removal. Hilary is a Cornell Master Beekeeper with over 15 years of experience and is the author of three books, including 'Queenspotting' and 'Heart of the Hive,' as well as the popular beekeeping blog 'Beekeeping Like A Girl.' Her unique approach and social media presence have earned her features in Vogue, San Diego Magazine, Sunset Magazine, and more, and she has inspired beekeepers around the world. Honey, when available, is produced by her approximately 50 colonies hosted on properties throughout San Diego County and is sold primarily at educational events or occasionally via a limited online shop.
