Desert Creek Honey is a family-owned, vertically integrated honey company based in Blue Ridge, Texas, founded by Blake Shook who began beekeeping at age 12 in 2002. They produce, harvest, bottle, and sell 100% raw, unfiltered Texas honey directly from their own tens of thousands of beehives, with no additives, pasteurization, or force filtering.

The Beekeeper's Story

Desert Creek Honey was born in 2002 when 12-year-old Blake Shook won a scholarship that provided him with a free beehive and beekeeping classes. Growing up in rural Texas, Blake immediately fell in love with beekeeping, building his first workspace from trees on his parents' land and selling to a local health food store called 'Mike's.' By high school graduation in 2008, he had several hundred hives and chose beekeeping full-time over college, eventually becoming president of the Texas Beekeepers Association and a director for the American Beekeeping Federation. Today, Desert Creek has grown into one of the largest commercial beekeeping operations in the country, with over 30,000 hives spread across Texas and beyond. Run by Blake and his wife Kathleen, the company oversees every step from hive to home — raising bees, harvesting honey, and bottling it all in-house at their Blue Ridge, Texas facility. Blake also serves on the National Honey Board and the boards of the American Beekeeping Federation and American Honey Producers Association. The Desert Creek family of businesses now includes honey packing, bulk bee supply, hobby beekeeping stores, commercial bee supply, and pollination brokering.
