The Beekeeper's Story
Founded in 1927 when Orville Cox settled on a small piece of acreage in rural Idaho, Cox's Honey began as a homesteading operation where beekeeping supported crop vitality. Orville noticed his honeycombs were overflowing and set up a roadside stand to sell the surplus — and Cox's Honey was born. The business is one of the oldest in Shelley, Idaho, and has remained in the Cox family across multiple generations, with Brent Cox serving as President and Adam French as CFO/co-owner today. Today, Cox Honey Farms operates approximately 13,000 bee colonies ranging from Ashton to Montpelier, Idaho, and packages over one million pounds of honey per year. Their bees forage on high mountain clover (White Dutch Clover, White Sweet Clover, Yellow Sweet Clover) and alfalfa across Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. The family continues to use hands-on, artisanal processes — gravity-fed straining, hand-filling, and third-party purity and pesticide testing — staying true to the traditions Orville established nearly a century ago.
