Breitsamer (officially Breitsamer & Ulrich GmbH & Co. KG) is a third-generation Bavarian family honey company headquartered in Munich, Germany, founded in 1935. Known for their exceptional quality standards that exceed German Honey Regulation requirements, they offer a wide range of raw and natural honey varieties sourced from traditional and sustainable apiaries across Europe and beyond.
The Beekeeper's Story
The Breitsamer family story begins in the 1930s, when Johann Breitsamer ran a small milk and honey shop in the Munich district of Haidhausen, selling honey from the family's own apiary. After the war, demand grew beyond what the family apiary could supply, so honey was additionally sourced from other beekeepers, mainly in the southern Bavarian region. A parallel story unfolded in Franconia, where Georg Ulrich began jarring and trading honey in the 1950s. The two families, both deeply rooted in Bavarian beekeeping traditions, eventually joined forces to create Breitsamer & Ulrich GmbH — THE Bavarian honey specialist. A key innovation came when Hans Breitsamer discovered a mixing technology for creamy honey on a trip to the USA, soon making creamy Breitsamer honey famous across Germany. Today, Robert Breitsamer and Thomas Ulrich lead the company in its third generation, maintaining a modern jarring facility with their own laboratory in Markt Erlbach near Nuremberg, and voluntarily labeling exact country-of-origin on every product.
