The Beekeeper's Story

The Pittas family's involvement in honey dates back to the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens, when patriarch George Pittas advertised the famed honey of Mount Hymettus in the Greek newspaper 'Estia.' In 1928, brothers Alexandros and Panagiotis Pittas formally founded ATTIKI Bee Culturing Co. to package and brand honey under the 'Ymittos Attiki Honey' label — a pioneering move that made them the first company to establish labeled packaged honey distribution in Greece. By the early 1930s, Attiki was already competing in international trade fairs and winning distinctions abroad. The 'Fino' forest honey line was added in the 1950s–1960s, with the founders' guiding philosophy being 'Every Greek should have one teaspoon of honey every day.' Today, the company packages and sells approximately 2,000 tonnes of honey annually — roughly 13% of all Greek honey production — and operates one of Europe's most advanced honey quality control and assurance laboratories.
