The Beekeeper's Story

Arizona Honey Market was founded by Mark Fratu, who grew up in communist Transylvania where his father was a beekeeper. After immigrating to the US, settling in Chicago, and later moving to Phoenix as a real estate investor, Fratu found himself drawn back to his roots. He started with a single hive around 2004–2006 and transitioned to full-time beekeeping in 2008 following the economic downturn. He keeps European and Africanized killer bees spread throughout the Phoenix/Scottsdale area — bees that are not fed fructose or treated with medications — to produce pollen-rich, raw honey. The brand sells directly via its website and seasonally at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market, with a home office/pickup location in Phoenix.
