Alfa Honey is a 100% pure, raw, and unprocessed Cretan thyme honey produced by the Fragiadakis Family (Fragiadakis Konstantinos Ltd) in Moires, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The honey comes from nomadic beehives placed in the unspoiled mountain forests of Crete, rich in endemic flora including wild thyme, pine, sage, and dittany. It is award-winning, having taken top honors at the 2019 Great Taste Awards, the 2019 London Honey Awards (Gold), and the 2018 Olymp Awards (Gold).
The Beekeeper's Story
The Fragiadakis family beekeeping tradition dates back to 1912, passed down through generations from grandfather to grandchild. Kostas Fragiadakis, the current producer, grew up near the foothills of Mount Psiloritis close to the town of Moires in southern Crete, not far from the ancient Minoan site of Phaistos. He practices nomadic apiculture, moving hives according to the flowering seasons to harvest nectar from wild thyme, pine, sage, and other endemic Cretan herbs. The family's facilities meet ISO 22000 quality and hygiene standards, and all honey is filtered and packaged without any heat treatment. The 'Alfa' name — the first letter of the Greek alphabet — was chosen to signify the premium quality of Cretan honey brought to a global market. Their packaging also won a Bronze A' Design Award in 2023.
