The name comes from two Latin roots: mel, the oldest word for honey — root of mellifluous, mead, and melissa — and vea, from invenire, meaning to find or to discover.
Melvea. Honey discovery. It's almost a literal description of what we do.
We chose Latin deliberately. Honey is one of humanity's oldest foods — found in Egyptian tombs, referenced in ancient texts, harvested from cliffs in Nepal and swamps in Florida. A name with ancient roots felt right for a platform built around something that has been worth finding for thousands of years.
The honey market is full of confusing labels, misleading claims, and products that aren't what they seem. Studies suggest a significant portion of commercial honey sold globally has been adulterated or mislabeled.
Melvea exists to cut through the noise. We built the Flavor Insight Protocol — a structured 4-question tasting system that turns passive ratings into real flavor data. We built the Honey Terroir Map to trace every honey back to the farm and region it came from. And we built a variety encyclopedia covering 150+ honey varieties so you know what you're actually buying.
Certifications are evidence, not verdicts. A raw Tupelo or Wildflower honey can legitimately outscore a certified Manuka on flavor. We score what's in the jar — not what's on the label.
Four questions. Two minutes. A tasting profile that actually means something. Color, aroma, flavor, finish — the four dimensions of every honey, structured into a system anyone can use. Build your palate. Discover what you love.
Every honey on Melvea traces back to a real farm. Explore 1815 farms across 46 countries — filter by region, variety, or distance from you. Because honey doesn't come from a factory. It comes from a place.
150+ honey varieties documented. Not a product catalog — an encyclopedia. What makes Tupelo taste like nothing else on earth. Why Leatherwood only exists in Tasmania. What "honeydew" actually means. The stories behind the jars.
Thousands of beekeepers are already listed on Melvea. Claim your profile to connect with tasters, share your story, and — when you're ready — sell direct. We built this platform for you as much as for the people looking for you.
Beekeeper access is always free. We only grow when you grow.
